Since the last newsletter we have been quite busy.
· We enjoyed a short but lively six-week term of singing in April and May on Zoom led by our Musical Director, Sebastian Thomson. The pieces we enjoyed were:
'The Long Day Closes' by Sullivan
'Crossing the Bar' by Parry
'Now is the Month of Maying' by Morley
'Pastyme with Good Company' by Henry VIII
‘Oh Lord, in Thee is All my Trust’ by Tallis
Different from our usual choral pieces, these were shorter and easier to learn, giving us a heady sense of achievement and pleasure in those few weeks.
Although Zoom cannot replace making music and singing together, it has enabled us to keep ourselves in voice, and has certainly kept the spirit of the choir alive. We have missed the company of those who, for whatever reason, opted out of the Zoom sessions.
· The Committee has been busy updating our Privacy Policy and Data Protection Policy and putting them into action. This has involved a lot of hard work in firstly writing the policies and then in implementing them by going over years of accumulated records and ensuring that any sensitive data is appropriately managed without detracting from the important data, both current and historical, that we hold. Anyone who is interested in these policies can find both on the All Saints’ Singers website.
· The committee is keen for the choir to meet and resume normal rehearsals and concerts. We have been drawing up plans to start rehearsals again in September, working out how best to keep each other safe while we sing.
We have decided on ‘Te Deum in C’ by Haydn and ‘Missa Brevis in C K 220 (Sparrow Mass)’ by Mozart as our pieces for next term. Unfortunately, we cannot yet decide about a concert in 2021 due to the continuing prevalence of Covid infections, but remain hopeful that we will be back to normal before too long. As soon as we plan a concert you will be informed by newsletter.
· You may be aware that the choir was formed in 1982 and that next year we will be celebrating our 40th anniversary. The committee already has plans for a celebration on the agenda and will keep everyone informed.
